”Combining drones, surveying, smart phones and digital imaging.”
The Drone Surveyor app has been designed to be used by drone pilots that need to obtain high resolution ground images. It’s a cheap option, especially if the drone pilot already has the equipment. The Drone Surveyor app is a great app to have in any drone pilot’s arsenal.
The Drone Pilot can install the Android app for direct connection and control of their drone. Drone Surveyor is also available online and on Windows and MacOS as a self installing application. The web and desktop versions of the application allow the drone pilot to pre-plan a survey and view their own survey data.

Draw region
Use the integrated map to draw the region you want to survey. The region doesn’t have to be square. Remember the region must be nearby as your drone will take off and fly to the region. If you make a mistake, simply clear the region and start again.
Select flight parameters
- Altitude - This controls the height of the drone while executing the mission.
- Row Sparsity - This controls how sparse the rows are going to be. To get the best coverage, lower altitudes should have less row sparsity and higher altitudes have more row sparsity.
- Photo Distance - This controls the distance between photos. The drone will fly along the white path and take photos spaced with this distance. If the drone is higher in the air, then you might not need to take photos as often.
- Speed - This controls the maximum speed of the drone while executing the mission.
Launch mission
Sit back and relax as the drone automatically covers the region and takes photos on a regular basis. The green dots on the map indicate where a photo was taken.
Transfer originals from the drone
To ensure the highest quality aerial composites are generated by Drone Surveyor, the app will allow you to transfer the original photos from your drone to your phone. It's best to do this just after you land your drone. You must be connected to the drone (works fastest with remote controller) to proceed.
Generate high resolution aerial photos
After you've successfully transferred the original aerial photos from your drone to your phone, proceed to the next step to send the photos off for processing! You'll get notifications as your stitch job progresses through the Drone Surveyor queue.
